Marine Engines

marine engines3Cummins offers a complete line of propulsion, generating sets and auxiliary power solutions from 37-1900 kW, designed specifically for the challenges of marine applications. Our team of factory-trained marine application engineers will help you get the right spec for your vessel.Once in service, our qualified marine technicians will keep you up and running.

Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is a Joint Venture between Cummins Inc. and Mercury Marine with a long-term vision to provide boat builders with a complete integrated system for vessel propulsion, power generation, controls and information for diesel engines. The combination of products, services, and expertise is unique in the diesel marine industry. Cummins MerCruiser Diesel provides a comparative advantage through the capability to guarantee performance and service as the industry's premier "prop to helm" performance source for boaters around the world, with diesel marine engines from 76-715 hp (57-533 kW) for commercial and recreational applications.

Recognizing the challenge of balancing the needs of the environment with the expectations of marine operators, Cummins developed the Quantum System MCRS engine family. This line of marine high horsepower engines not only is certified to the more stringent EPA Tier 2 emissions standards, but also delivers superior durability and reliability over other products in its class.
The QSK MCRS engine family features common technology components designed to endure the harsh marine environment, offer lower emissions and also meet Marine Classification Society requirements. The products build on the well-earned reputation of the KTA19, KTA38 and KTA50 marine engines as the proven leaders in high-hour, high-load applications.

Cummins also manufactures a complete line of marine filtration hardware, exhaust systems and control panels, all designed with the quality, technology and reliability you need to keep running strong. Plus, all are supported through the same distributor network to ensure complete system integration and global support.

Bus Engines

bus engines3Whether you are looking for a diesel, alternative fuel or a diesel/electric hybrid to power your city buses, Cummins has you covered. Our entire range of engines is built from proven core technology that's been continuously refined and improved so that those engines deliver better performance, every day and every route. This includes our proprietary VGT™ Turbocharger and an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler that's been upgraded for enhanced reliability.

All Cummins transit bus engines meet EPA 2010 emissions standards. We've utilized our fully integrated technology to simultaneously improve fuel economy and performance, lowering operating costs as we lower emissions to near-zero levels.

Cummins is the only engine manufacturer to design, develop, manufacture and support nearly every component from the air intake to the exhaust aftertreatment in a totally integrated system. This allows us to optimize critical systems and deliver the right technology in a way that other manufacturers using outside suppliers simply can't match. Current bus engine models include:

  • ISL9 - Ratings range from 280-330 hp with a maximum 1100 lb-ft of torque (Transit & Shuttle Buses). This engine can also be used to power hybrid diesel/electic buses.
  • ISC8.3 - Ratings range from 260-350hp with a maximum 1000 lb-ft of torque (School Buses).
  • ISB6.7 - Ratings range from 200-325 hp and a maximum 750 lb-ft of peak torque (School Buses). This engine can also be used to power hybrid diesel/electic buses.

Our diesel engines for 2010 have added Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to the Cummins Aftertreatment System. This change has allowed us to reduce the amount of cooled EGR into the power cylinder, and recalibrate our diesels so they are more responsive to throttle input with equal or better fuel economy than previous models.
